Pink Accent Transitional Rug
This pink accent transitional rug was hand knotted in India in wool and measures 270 x 180 cm, about 4.9 square metres. A deep charcoal ground carries an all-over floral design, and dusty rose rosettes bring pink into an otherwise dark field.
The design up close
Large rosettes and blossoms spread across the field in rust, dusty rose, soft blue-grey and cream. Fine curling vines and leaves join them, so the design spreads evenly across the field. The central panel is set apart by a thin band of its own, and the rosettes sit in loose rows of three across. The pink blooms are the warmest tones, and the blue-grey highlights look cooler against the dark ground. The rosettes are largest near the centre and smaller towards the edges of the field.
The border is dark, with rows of small rosettes and vine motifs in rust and cream. A thin rust-brown line separates it from the outer edge, and short fringe finishes the top and bottom. This pink accent transitional rug has a dark base with warm accents, so the pink reads as an accent colour. The border sits quietly behind the field, so the rosettes remain the focus.
Indian rugs in a transitional style
Our Indian hand knotted rugs lean towards contemporary and designer pieces, alongside classic patterns, and wool is the most common pile. A transitional rug suits rooms that mix modern and traditional furniture, and this one pairs a classic floral layout with a dark, modern palette. A dark ground tends to show fewer light marks than a pale one, so it suits a busy family room.
How it is made
This pink accent transitional rug is double hand knotted, and our records note vegetable dyes. Hand knotting means each knot is tied by a weaver on a loom, and the wool pile is sheared level afterwards.
Sizing this pink accent transitional rug
This 270 x 180 rug covers about 4.9 square metres. A three-seat sofa of around 2.2 m leaves about 25 cm of rug showing past each end, and the front legs of two armchairs can rest on it around a coffee table. In a dining room, a table of about 180 x 90 cm for six leaves roughly 45 cm of rug at each end and 45 cm along each side. This pink accent transitional rug suits a living room with pale walls, where the pink accents stand out.
Looking after your rug
Vacuum it on a suction-only setting, or with the beater bar switched off, so the brush does not pull at the knots. Turn it around every six to twelve months so sun and foot traffic wear it evenly. Blot spills with a clean white cloth and cold water rather than rubbing them in. When it needs a full clean, choose a cleaner who washes handmade rugs by hand.
Put a good underlay beneath it. It stops the rug sliding on timber or tiles, adds cushioning and takes some of the wear off the pile. Moths like wool in dark, quiet spots, such as the part of a rug under a sofa, so vacuum those areas often and lift the furniture now and then.
