Beige Plain NZ Wool Rug
This beige plain NZ wool rug was hand knotted in India from pure New Zealand wool. Its taupe beige field looks plain from across the room, and fine cream lines drawn across it reveal the design up close. The size can be confirmed in our showroom.
The design up close
Fine cream lines wander across the whole field, meeting and breaking apart to form a loose, irregular trellis. Some lines run close to vertical, others bend into soft diagonals, and a few form small open shapes where they cross. The lines are tonal, so the pattern never jumps out from the ground. Standing back, the rug reads as a soft, even beige, and the trellis appears as you move closer or walk past at an angle. The lines wobble slightly along their length rather than running straight and ruled.
The taupe ground is even from edge to edge, with no border, corners or central medallion. Short fringe finishes both ends. Across this beige plain NZ wool rug, the cream lines are the only pattern, so the rug reads as one calm surface with fine drawing on top.
Indian workshops and their wool
Indian workshops weave many contemporary designs, often to order, in a wide range of colours and sizes. Wool is the most common pile in rugs made in India. This beige plain NZ wool rug uses pure New Zealand wool, which is known for its softness and durability. The wool has a gentle surface, so the beige reads as calm rather than bright.
How this rug is made
Hand knotting builds this beige plain NZ wool rug one knot at a time on a loom. Our records note German dyes. The cut pile gives the surface a plush feel underfoot. Because every knot is tied on the loom by hand, the pattern builds slowly, row after row, and the trellis lines settle into place as the weaving rises.
Sizing this beige plain NZ wool rug
The size can be confirmed in our showroom, where you can see the cream lines against your own light. This beige plain NZ wool rug suits a living room with cream or timber furniture, or a bedroom with linen bedding. Its plain field keeps the floor quiet, so the room can carry its colour through cushions and art. In a dining room, leave space for the chairs to slide back without catching the edge. A taupe rug like this sits easily beside timber, linen and plain walls, and in a living room it works well with a coffee table at its centre.
Looking after your rug
Vacuum it on a suction-only setting, or with the beater bar switched off, so the brush does not pull at the knots. Turn it around every six to twelve months so sun and foot traffic wear it evenly. Blot spills with a clean white cloth and cold water rather than rubbing them in. When it needs a full clean, choose a cleaner who washes handmade rugs by hand.
Put a good underlay beneath it. It stops the rug sliding on timber or tiles, adds cushioning and takes some of the wear off the pile. Moths like wool in dark, quiet spots, such as the part of a rug under a sofa, so vacuum those areas often and lift the furniture now and then.
