Red Heriz Toranj Rug
This red Heriz Toranj rug is a 286 x 242 cm piece made from wool. A large red medallion with stepped, angular edges fills the centre, set on ivory corners and framed by a deep navy border. The rug is bold, geometric and warm in colour.
The design up close
The centre medallion is a diamond-like shape with stepped, hooked edges. Its outline is cream, navy and brown, and inside it a cream and navy flower shape sits on a dark centre, with small motifs in rust and blue around it. The medallion of this red Heriz Toranj rug is the largest feature, and everything else is arranged around it.
The four corners of the field are ivory with angular motifs in brown-red and navy. The corner shapes repeat the medallion’s angles in smaller form, so the field reads as one pattern.
The border is dark navy with rust and cream geometric motifs, including small diamonds and stepped shapes. A narrow brown band sits between the border and the field, and its plain colour frames the centre.
Colour on this red Heriz Toranj rug
Brick and rust red fill the medallion and make up the main colour of the rug. Ivory fills the corners and the medallion outline, and navy gives the border its depth. Brown and small touches of blue add detail in the centre. The palette is warm and strong, with the red and ivory contrast clear across the whole rug.
A red Heriz Toranj rug works best with cream or grey walls and dark timber, where the rust tones stand out. It also pairs well with plain leather or linen furniture.
Sizing it for your room
At 286 x 242 cm the rug covers about 6.9 square metres, so a red Heriz Toranj rug this size suits a living room with a three-seat sofa. A sofa of around 2.2 m leaves about 33 cm of rug showing past each end, and the front legs of two armchairs can rest on the rug around a coffee table. Under a dining table of about 180 x 90 cm, it leaves roughly 53 cm at each end and 76 cm along each side.
Where it suits your home
A red Heriz Toranj rug suits a family room or dining room with simple furniture, where a firm, patterned rug can take daily use. The central medallion gives the room a clear focus, so keep the sofa and chairs arranged around the centre.
Looking after your rug
Vacuum it on a suction-only setting, or with the beater bar switched off, so the brush does not pull at the pile. Turn it around every six to twelve months so sun and foot traffic wear it evenly. Blot spills with a clean white cloth and cold water rather than rubbing them in. When it needs a full clean, choose a cleaner who washes handmade rugs by hand.
Put a good underlay beneath it. It stops the rug sliding on timber or tiles, adds cushioning and takes some of the wear off the pile. Moths like wool in dark, quiet spots, such as the part of a rug under a sofa, so vacuum those areas often and lift the furniture now and then.
