Cream Persian Mood Rug
This Cream Persian Mood Rug is a hand knotted rug from Iran, measuring 395 x 310 cm, or about 12.2 square metres. Its field is mostly rust brown and deep navy, and the cream comes through in the bands that step inward toward the centre, so the cream sits in the bands rather than across the whole rug.
The design up close
A large hexagon, stepped in several bands, sits at the centre of the field of this Cream Persian Mood Rug. Moving inward from the border, the bands run rust brown, cream, deep navy and cream again, ending in a small central hexagon. Every band carries a close, all over pattern of tiny motifs, so the rug reads as fine texture from a distance and as a dense field of detail when you look closer.
The cream bands are the lightest part of the rug. Small blue and rust motifs sit on them in tight rows, and a small blue grey medallion marks the middle of the central hexagon. The corners outside the hexagon are rust and navy, so the stepped shape stands clear of the ground around it.
The border is built from several narrow stripes. Its widest band is lilac grey with small gold and tan motifs spaced along it, and thin cream and dark brown lines separate it from the field. The outermost stripe is dark, so the border of this Cream Persian Mood Rug closes the design neatly and frames every band inside it.
Where this Cream Persian Mood Rug comes from
Every rug in this collection was hand knotted in Iran. A Persian rug is made one knot at a time on a loom, and a room-size piece can take a weaver many months. That is why no two are alike, even when the layout is the same.
A Persian rug is woven in Iran, and the term covers rugs with very different designs, from central medallions to all over patterns. Persian rug and Persian carpet mean the same thing, so the two names are interchangeable when you shop.
Sizing this Cream Persian Mood Rug
At 395 x 310 cm this Cream Persian Mood Rug covers about 12.2 square metres, enough for a large living room or formal dining room. A three-seat sofa of around 2.2 m sits with about 88 cm of rug beyond each end, so the front legs of the sofa and of armchairs set facing it can rest on the rug.
For a dining table of about 240 x 100 cm, which seats eight, the rug leaves about 78 cm at each end and about 105 cm along each side for chairs to slide back. The cream bands pick up pale walls and timber, while the rust and navy field sits well with warm grey or dark furnishings.
Looking after your rug
Vacuum it on a suction-only setting, or with the beater bar switched off, so the brush does not pull at the knots. Turn it around every six to twelve months so sun and foot traffic wear it evenly. Blot spills with a clean white cloth and cold water rather than rubbing them in. When it needs a full clean, choose a cleaner who washes handmade rugs by hand.
Put a good underlay beneath it. It stops the rug sliding on timber or tiles, adds cushioning and takes some of the wear off the pile. Moths favour dark, quiet spots, such as the part of a rug under a sofa, so vacuum those areas often and lift the furniture now and then.
