Cream Mood Persian Runner
This cream Mood Persian runner is double hand knotted in Iran from lamb’s wool and measures 290 x 80 cm. Its field is a slate grey-blue covered in small repeating motifs, and a deep rust red border surrounds it. The cream shows at the outer edge and along the fringed ends.
The design up close
Along this cream Mood Persian runner, the field is filled with small motifs set in tight rows: tiny rosettes, lozenges and flower shapes in cream, rust, navy and tan. The pattern repeats evenly from one end to the other, with no large central medallion, so the eye reads the field as a single texture. Because the cream is kept to the edge, the runner reads as a quiet grey-blue strip from a distance.
The border of this cream Mood Persian runner is the strongest part of the design. A wide band of rust red carries rows of small diamond chains and stepped flowers in navy, cream and blue-grey, with a darker brown outer edge. Narrow guard stripes in cream and navy separate it from the field, and a thin cream line runs along the outside. The border reads as a distinct frame from either end of the runner.
Persian weaving and this runner
Every rug in our Persian collection is hand knotted in Iran. A Persian rug is made one knot at a time on a loom, usually from hand-spun wool and sometimes silk, and a room-size piece can take a weaver many months. This cream Mood Persian runner belongs to that tradition, and it is made from wool. Because the runner is long, the same small motifs lead the eye along its length.
How this cream Mood Persian runner is made
This runner is double hand knotted, so each tuft is tied by hand on the loom and the pile is then sheared level. Our records note German dyes. The back of the runner carries the pattern too, with the small irregularities that only hand knotting leaves. The cream edge and fringed ends give the runner a finished look at each end.
Sizing it for your hallway
At 290 x 80 cm, this cream Mood Persian runner covers about 2.3 square metres. A runner of this length suits a long, straight passage. With about 10 to 20 cm of bare floor showing on each side, a hallway about 100 to 120 cm wide suits it best. The narrower 80 cm width suits a passage, while the longer 290 cm length gives the pattern room to repeat.
Looking after your rug
Vacuum it on a suction-only setting, or with the beater bar switched off, so the brush does not pull at the knots. Turn it around every six to twelve months so sun and foot traffic wear it evenly. Blot spills with a clean white cloth and cold water rather than rubbing them in. When it needs a full clean, choose a cleaner who washes handmade rugs by hand.
Put a good underlay beneath it. It stops the rug sliding on timber or tiles, adds cushioning and takes some of the wear off the pile. Moths like wool in dark, quiet spots, such as the part of a rug under a sofa, so vacuum those areas often and lift the furniture now and then.
